CSS Sprites

Was browsing thru some job openings on JobStreet and saw one ad that required some knowledge in something called "CSS sprites". Was curious, so I did a Google search and I came across this useful article on it.

CSS Sprites: What They Are, Why They’re Cool, and How To Use Them

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - Completed!
Monday, 26th October 2009, 11:46:12am

Completed my first Playstation 3 game! I think the total time played should be around 3 to 4 days. It is even more addictive than Infamous, another Playstaion 3 exclusive game.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

You do not need to have played the first Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to actually be able to play this sequel. The stories are totally independent of each other. The only thing similar is the main character, Nathan Drake and the gameplay. The game is a third person action shooter with puzzles thrown into the mix. You take on the role of the Drake as you race against time to find the lost city of Shambala and find the Cintamani Stone before a madman and his army does. You will travel from Turkey to the jungles of Borneo and among a war torn city in Nepal. It made me feel like Indiana Jones while playing it.

Gameplay is simple and easy to pick up. You can get Drake to shoot, duck behind cover, pick up ammo, jump across gaps and climb walls. Some times, you are required to actually climb walls to reach some thing that will help you solve a puzzle or reach a goal. All these actions are really fluid and life like though there are times when I really wonder if a normal human can jump across some of the more unbelieveable gaps. You never have a dull moment in the game. You will encountered enemies and action at almost every turn. The most exciting part of the game has got to be the battle on a moving train. Imagine trying to shoot enemy soldiers on the roof of a train car. In a tunnel. With obstacles that can smack you off the train (which results in instant death). With limited ammo. And the train is moving left and right. If running and gunning is not your style, you will be pleased to know that there are times when stealth can eliminate enemies more quickly than wasting limited ammo. For example, you see a soldier standing on a ledge above. You can climb up to the ledge and pull him off the ledge and right into the ravine below.

Graphics is really outstanding. I think much better than Infamous. The environments are so life like that you feel like you are really in that world. There is an area in Nepal where you walk in the snow. As your character walks, you can see his boots and pants get covered in snow, footprints are left behind and the way the snow is pushed aside with every step. Water splashes when you jump into it. The ruins of Shambala are overgrown with moss and creepers. Wood splinters when bullets hit the cover you are hiding behind. There are enemies who have armor plates in their body armor that you can shoot right off to expose their clothing underneath.

I personally give this game a 9 out of 10. Just need to get used to aiming and moving your character with the left and right analog stick. Too used to the keyboard and mouse combination.

So, now that I have completed the game, I want to sell it away. Any interested parties?

Back From Batam!
Monday, 26th October 2009, 7:20:43am

Finally! I'm back from Batam. Roasted. Tired.

Tried to be positive about the trip but in the end, I still felt it was a waste of time. Sure. Had a bit of fun here and there. Keyword: A BIT.

Maybe its because I don't like boring resorts. Maybe its because I do not like to be forced to do non-work related things that I do not like. Maybe its also because we were forced to go on a weekend which, in my opinion, is time that belongs to us, not the company.

On the bright side, saw some nice "scenery", learnt a bit more about taking photographs with my little digital camera and saw what the city of Nagoya looks like.

On Leave
Tuesday, 13th October 2009, 8:27:50am

It has been ages since I last took leave this year.

Wait. I don't even remember when was the last time I took leave! This is a bad sign I think. Cannot be spending the whole year working my ass off without relaxing right?

Set. Come December, I shall whack my leave.

Wrong Pepsi and Wrong Identity
Thursday, 1st October 2009, 2:10:44pm

I thought I bought the normal Pepsi from 7-11. Then I came back. Did some work. Felt thirsty. Opened the Pepsi and was shocked at the taste. I thought I bought the normal Pepsi. So I took another look at the bottle and it read "Pepsi Twist". On the bright side, I'm getting 20% more of it than usual. =p

Also, is it normal for Indians to call other guys "Dear"? Some client on Skype wanted something done for his web site but I told him I cannot make the decision until someone of a higher authority returned the next morning. Then he said he will and he typed "thanks dear". Either he thought my name was a girl's name or he's blind or gay. Take your pick.

*shakes head*
