Taufik Apologises for National Anthem Error
Monday, 28th September 2009, 2:56:42pm

During last night's Forumla One Grand Prix night, our local singer and Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah sang the national anthem and was so nervous that he made an error while singing it.

Instead of "marilah kita bersatu" which means "let us unite", he sang "marilah kita bersaru" which means "let us proclaim". Taufik has since apologised and hopes the public will forgive him for what he refers to as an "honest mistake".

Well, like one of our ministers said before. "It was an honest mistake. Let's move on."

Sunday, 20th September 2009, 3:53:47pm

After three weeks of no basketball, they finally could organize one since there were enough people.

It was going very well for me initially. Then the old lower back injury acted up again. It was then that I realized I forgot to do warm up exercises first beefore playing.

Going to have to see the sinseh tomorrow at Simei.

Pain. Pain. Pain.

Shielding Speakers?
Wednesday, 16th September 2009, 9:59:54am

2 days ago, I noticed that my new speakers are emitting a constant beeping sound. It becomes even more obvious when I am not listening to music or playing games. After some investigation (sounds very "CSI" eh?), I found that it was caused by the signals from my wireless router next to my speakers.

Therefore, if there any way to shield my speakers from the wireless signals?

New Speakers!
Sunday, 13th September 2009, 9:22:51pm

Went back to COMEX today to have a better look at Altec Lansing's range of 2.1 sound systems. The current one was really pissing me off. And this is what I got.

For S$78, I consider this a good deal. Powerful bass, a sort of remote control for you to control the volume and treble and two large speakers. The only downside to this system is that the bass control is behind the subwoofer, which sadly, is usually placed on the floor at your feet. That makes it hard to reach should you feel the need to re-adjust the bass level. Luckily, setting it at the half way mark seems to do the trick, so I do not see the need to do any further adjustments.

Really happy with this sound system. Time to blast some music!

COMEX 2009
Saturday, 12th September 2009, 1:42:37am

As usual, its one of those events where Singaporeans go nuts over. All hoping to snag a nice 42" LCD TV or that powerful DSLR camera. Usually with freebies like an extra memory stick, tripod stands or nice discounts that are probably hard to find outside. My objectives this time was to find out how much bang I could get for a 2.1 PC speaker system and how much cheaper can I get the new Sony Ericsson W995 from SingTel.

Firstly, the PC speaker system. My current Altec Lansing 2.1 system is around 2 years old already. The left speaker is going bonkers. When you switch on the speakers, sound only emits from the right speaker. It is only after I turn the volume all the way to the top then does the left speaker work. Figuring that I got those speakers from Sim Lim Square for a low price of $44, I was hoping to get a replacement at around that price too.

Did not find many booths selling speakers though. You would think that it is easy to find all those booths by zooming in on the techno music that they blast but its not. Too noisy. The three major brands I managed to find in that mess were Creative, Sonic Gear and Altec Lansing. Creative was selling a simple 2.1 system for around $49. Not too bad. I must say, however, that I do have reservations about buying Creative products. Don't know why but I feel that their products are not up to the standards of other major brands like Altec Lansing. I admit I am bias. Nonetheless, I took note of the price and speaker and moved on. Next, we have Sonic Gear. Their speaker systems are much more sytlish than their Creative counterparts. Price wise, they are quite competitive. Lowest was $29.90 and upwards to more than $100. However, the cheaper ones did not have controls for adjusting bass and tone. Only volume control. Not really what I am looking for in a PC sound system. Only the expensive ones has both bass and tone controls. The other flaw with those expensive ones was that they tend to be too large. I am looking for something compact. Altec Lansing's booth was somewhat difficult to find. Located right smack in the 6th floor and it was really small. Speakers were good as usual with controls for bass, tone and volume. Prices range from $59 to $100 plus. However, ,the range of speakers from Altec Lansing was not large so I ended up not buying any speakers.

For the SingTel side, things were not good either. Alone, the Sony Ericsson W995 handphone is about $600 to $700. With a 2 year contract, the price is around $300 onwards. So, I was surprised when I saw that it was going for $148 with a 2 year plan. That was when I made the mistake of not reading the small text.  After I got a queue number and a sales staff attended to my recontract enquiry then did I realized it. The low price was if you traded in another handphone for $200. I did not have any handphone to trade. Then the staff said without trade-in, the final price was in fact $398 with 2 year recontract.

In the end, I came out of COMEX with absolutely nothing. Oh wait. I did come out with something. Sore legs.

Back Again
Thursday, 10th September 2009, 11:45:38pm

Haven't been updating my blog lately. Well, basically because there is really nothing that interesting to blog about lately.

Except that little event over at Sentosa with the company last weekend. Then again, I didn't take many photos and what little I did take turned out to be really horrible. So, shall not post them up. Wait! There is this picture of the cakes as part of the dessert that day...that one looks good. Hmm...

While waiting for Mass Effect 2 to be released early next year, I completed Mass Effect 1 for the fourth time. Really a sort of stress relief to gun down legions of AI controlled enemies. Too much work and tight deadlines can really do that to a person, you know? To me at least.

Will be going down to COMEX tomorrow night after work. Check out the promotions and other items on sale there. Hope I can get Epson printer inks there cheaper than at Sim Lim Square. Also need to check out the SingTel booth for any cool promotions on handphone contracts. And maybe even the Sony booth. Should be a gigantic booth that occupies half the floor space on the third floor like they do at every IT show in Singapore.

Oh yeah. My tagboard seems to be cleaner now without all those nonsense spam by idiots. Some ad about viagra or some other weird drugs and prescriptions. Wonder if they are even legal. Anyway, hope this means my anti-spamming measures are heading in the right direction.

Okay. Time to sleep.

Think I shall skip breakfast tomorrow and have a light lunch.

Hop there is a basketball session this coming Sunday too. Time to burn some fats. Or rather, lots of fats! =(
